My first "live" pageant in nearly 20 years! I was shocked to be selected and really honored. I started making appearances right away.

Appearance on the "Royal Mile" Mercedes Marathon

Birminghan AL February 2004

The company I work for, Royal Cup, sponsors a mile on the prestigious Mercedes Marathon. It is aptly named The Royal Mile. We wear paper crowns and lay out the "red carpet". We are a water station along the marathon route. Everyone has great fun as we cheer on the runners. Every year we are voted as one of the best miles! I was thrilled at the opportunity to appear as the "official royalty" for our Royal Mile!

Rehersal

OMG! No one told me that the photo they took while we were rehearsing would become my OFFICIAL photo on the cd! The on-staff H&M was to do my hair & makeup, so I came prepared for them but not this! Oh Well Live and Learn! Next year I'll wear make-up!

Also, you will notice the dreaded "MRS MOODY" banner I was trying to avoid!

Evening Gown

Yeah, Yeah, I know, wrinkled dress. But this was my "practice year" so I wasn't going to spend a lot of money. The cool thing was that I'd lost 15 pounds from the time I bought it to the day of the pageant! I may have looked frumpy, but I felt great!

Swimsuit

I had felt pretty good about swimsuit ( despite the fact the stage lights and eyelashes had my eyes watering so bad I couldn't see!) until I got the photos back. Yeah, shoulda wore hose too ( they weren't required at state)... Well, I'm a work in progress..but I have come a long way from 197 pounds!

I was completely shocked to have been selected as Mrs. Congeniality! I was just there to have fun and was just being "Joy." I was really honored to be selected because everyone was super nice!

Amanda & me with AirMed jet

Amanda Abernathy ( BOA AL's 20) and me recently were treated to a tour of Birmingham's AirMed operations facility and hanger. AirMed is a medical jet service that flies patients all over the world.  After being discussed on the nationally syndicated "Rick and Bubba Show"  we thought we'd check it out. The jet we toured was outfitted as a "mini hospital" complete with medical staff. Check out their link on my Links page

Lovely Ladies

As part of our tour, the guys at AirMed thought they'd demonstrate their quick service and wisked us off to New York City.....JUST KIDDING!
We stopped for a quick photo op at Birmingham's Liberty Park.

"Birmingham's own Statue of Liberty is visible to motorists driving on the southern outskirts of Birmingham on the Interstate 459 bypass. Located in a commercial development, Liberty Park, the statue is lighted at night and her flame burns continuously.

A partial excerpt from a plaque at the site:

"A bronze replica, one-fifth the size of the Statue of Liberty, was commissioned by Frank Park Samford as the symbol for the company he founded, Liberty National Life Insurance Company. Created by sculptors Archer and Lee Lawrie, the statue was cast in Sommerville Haut Marine, France, in 1956 and was placed atop Liberty National's home office building in downtown Birmingham and then moved to its present location and dedicated on July 4, 1989."

Boy Scout Headquarters

Eagle Plaza

We also took a moment to tour the grounds of Alabama's Boy Scouts of America Headquarters. The grounds include Eagle Plaza, a monument dedicated to the scouts that reached the achievement of Eagle Scout. The monument includes the names of all of Alabama's Eagle Scouts!
